  • Any foreign student who is residing in Korea shall be insured automatically to the Korean National Health Insurance from March 01, 2021.

Payment of Insurance Premium

  • Pay the insurance premium for the next month in advance on every 25th day. (the bill will be sent to the address on your alien registration card).

How to Pay

  • You can pay it by a virtual account, automatic transfer from bank, on the homepage of the National Health Insurance Service (NHIS), or a mobile application “The Health Insurance”, etc.

When you fails to pay an insurance premium,

  • Restriction on Extension of Visa : it may cause disadvantages for extending a visa or all kinds of period of stay from the Ministry of Justice.
  • Restriction on Insurance Benefits : the benefit may be restricted when using a hospital or clinic.

Insurance for 6 months at the early stage of Korean Language Training Course

  • According to the administration rules for foreigners by the Ministry of Education, a foreign student should be insured.
    For a freshman of the Korean Language Training Course, therefore, your insurance premium is included into your initial tuition fee and you will be automatically insured to the Korean National Health Insurance from 6 months after entry to Korea.

How to apply insurance money for a student who is enrolled to the Korean Language Training Course for less than 6 months

  • Prepay your medical expenses when you are treated as an outpatient or inpatient or you are prescribed a medicine from a medical institution such as a domestic hospital or clinic, etc. and then claim the medical expenses to the insurance company. Prepare for following documents and present them to the school’s administration office :
  • Documents to Present : - Statement of Claim (S.O.C) and Agreement on Collection and Use of Personal Information (fill out forms at the school’s administration office) - Copy of Alien ID (Registration) Card (possible to replace with a passport) - Copy of the student’s bankbook - Statement and Receipt of Medical Expenses - Detailed Statement for Calculation of Medical Service Fees - Prescription or a receipt of pharmaceutical cost (when buying a medicine or drug)
